Commissioned by the Digital Museum of Digital Art (DiMoDA), Double Zero explores colliding personal and political histories, subjectivity and catastrophe culture. Participants begin roughly six inches tall on a giant roulette table in an abandoned casino. Tape recordings of live radio from Nixon’s 1974 resignation fill the virtual space. Circling meteors, volcanic eruptions, magic circles, and industrial waste herald impending disaster. The title Double Zero references [00], a pocket found exclusively on American roulette wheels. [00] grants the casino house a slightly greater advantage over the player, to increase profits. Roulette is a game of pure chance involving no skill, unless the house is cheating.
