Simulated diamonds dance a duet in a mated pair of display screens. Flames arc across one display into the other, while the diamonds are forever bound and separated by the edges of their respective display screens. The gems’ realistic veneer sometimes glitches to momentarily reveal a digital 3D wireframe mesh. Love is a burning thing explores distance, desire, and the Pyrrhic exchanges in technologically mediated communication. The work’s title borrows the first line of Johnny Cash’s famous song of romance, longing and addiction, Ring of Fire.
