In Cosmic Crucibles, sliced acrylic paint represents thermonuclear forces in an exploding star. The acrylic is
mounted on an explosion-shaped nickel plate. A cross-sectioned chip of pure nickel rests in the center of the
sliced acrylic, which was cut using the same katana sword embedded in Cauldron.
A supernova explosion event outshines entire galaxies for weeks at a time. The persistent light is generated by an expanding cloud of nickel produced in the explosion, which emits photons as it radioactively decays. Cosmic Crucibles forms part of The End and the Beginning of Everything, a body of work exploring the symbolic, material, and ethical implications surrounding recent advances in astrophysics.
